/ THE GENESIS
[01]
‘Kaskazi’ is the name of the northeastern monsoon winds that once swept across the Indian Ocean, carrying Arab traders to the shores of East Africa. Winds that didn’t stop at moving ships. They moved people, ideas, languages, and beliefs — giving birth to an entire culture. The Swahili world — its language, its architecture, its identity — exists because of Kaskazi.
[02]
Kaskazi comes from the word ‘Kaskazini’, the Swahili word for north. It points to the North Star. For thousands of years, sailors navigating open water used that single fixed point in the sky to find their way. Not a map. Not a compass. Just one star that never moved while everything else did.
Direction. Movement. The courage to reach far and wide

/ WHAT WE DO
[01]
Expedition-driven documentary work rooted in the cultures, landscapes, and societies of Africa and beyond. We go to the places most productions won't — far from the centre, hard to reach, often overlooked.
[02]
We tell stories through the real people living them. The ones whose lives hold something the world needs to see and feel. Our hope is that the work does more than document — that it moves people, and in some way, drives change.
[03]
Some of these films we fund ourselves, because they matter to us and we believe in telling them whether or not we are commissioned. Others we make with partners who want a story told properly.
/ WHAT WE DO
[01]
Brand films built around real human worlds. We take a product, a service, an idea — and find the story living inside it. The feeling it creates. The gap it fills. The life it fits into.
[02]
We build worlds around the brand — its texture, its sound, the way it feels to live with. We shape every sense so that what people walk away with isn't a message, but a feeling. A real connection to the brand that stays with them.
[03]
Our commercial work also funds the documentaries we believe in — the self-initiated stories that give a voice to communities and cultures facing challenges the world rarely sees. Every brief we take helps make the next story possible.
